Minéralis or ceramic: how to choose your worktop
Both MStone collections meet the same standard, but not the same projects. Resistance, care, aesthetics, budget: here are the criteria that really make the difference when choosing a worktop.
Two materials, two logics
Minéralis is a mineral composite surface: it keeps the qualities that made quartz worktops successful, the density, the stone-like touch and the depth of the veining, with a composition of 86% recycled glass and a low silica content. Every 3200 x 1600 mm slab carries a 20-year warranty, for indoor use.
Ceramic is porcelain stoneware fired at very high temperature. Its non-porous surface fears neither scratches, nor stains, nor contact with hot dishes. It comes in large formats, which allows worktops and splashbacks with very few joints.
Everyday resistance
In the kitchen, both materials take intensive use in their stride: cutting, impacts, splashes. Minéralis withstands heat up to 180 °C, a comfortable threshold for daily life, with the classic precaution of a trivet for dishes straight out of the oven. Ceramic tolerates direct contact with very hot cookware.
In the bathroom, the water absorption of Minéralis, below 0.05%, keeps it safe from rings and infiltration. Ceramic, for its part, excels as shower wall cladding thanks to its large formats.
Care and cleaning
Minéralis is maintained with a soft cloth and clear water. Two habits to remember: avoid washing-up liquid and greasy products, which leave a dull film, and treat stubborn stains with white vinegar diluted to 10% at most, followed by rinsing.
Ceramic cleans with soapy water, with no periodic treatment. It is the peace-of-mind material for hard-working kitchens.
Aesthetics
The Minéralis collection counts 17 colours, from statuary whites like Nobel White to assertive veining like Calacatta Attera Gold. The composite allows deep, full-body decors very close to natural marble.
The ceramic collection offers 13 decors, from luminous calacattas to the black Cosmos. Large formats create spectacular continuous surfaces, on the worktop as on the matching splashback.
So, which one?
For a kitchen or bathroom worktop with a stone finish, a long warranty and a strong environmental argument, Minéralis stands out. For very large continuous surfaces, matching splashbacks or particularly intensive exposure to heat, ceramic takes the lead.
